To mitigate the negative effects of the El Niño phenomenon on farming communities in the districts of Muanza and Cheringoma in Sofala province, the Fundação LevasFlor organised an emergency action in response. The initiative, part of the Swedish Embassy's Triple Resilience Programme, aimed to strengthen the resilience of rural families in the face of the growing climatic challenges affecting agricultural production systems in the Beira Corridor.

Diverse inputs were distributed, including sweet potato branches, cassava cuttings, cereal seeds for the second agricultural season and vegetable seeds, as well as fertilisers and pesticides for pest control. This strategic intervention sought to guarantee the continuity of production and food security, while also ensuring the sustainable recovery of farming systems affected by climate irregularities.
In total, 300 producers benefited directly from the action, 145 in the Muanza district and 155 in Cheringoma. Among the beneficiaries are 30 participants in the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) process, equally distributed between the two districts. Of the beneficiaries, 135 are men, 165 are women and 112 are young people, demonstrating the Fundação LevasFlor commitment to inclusion and gender and generational equality.
With this activity, the Fundação LevasFlor reaffirms its role as an active agent in protecting livelihoods and promoting sustainable agriculture adapted to climate change. The distribution of inputs reinforces the FLF's vision of guaranteeing food security and dignity for the most vulnerable communities, contributing to a positive and lasting transformation in Sofala's rural communities.
