ORIGINS

Sustainable Forestry

Fundação Levasflor was born out of the experiences in the community development program of the private sector company LevasFlor Lda. It is a FSC-certified (sustainable) forestry company, fully committed to social- and environmental responsibility.

The primary objective of the company is to promote the sustainable use of the Miombo forests and to safeguard biodiversity by establishing profitable economic activities in the forest and timber industry.

Community Development

Levasflor Lda has 20 years of expertise in engaging with communities in the Sofala province on social and economic initiatives.

It has provided training to over 600 smallholder farmers in forest conservation techniques and controlled burning to combat deforestation. In addition, it has contributed to the education of over 500 children and adults while actively promoting literacy.

Furthermore LevasFlor Lda. has implemented a program financed by the US Embassy in Maputo focused on agroforestry and fire management training, aimed at transitioning local communities in Sofala province away from traditional slash-and-burn methods towards sustainable farming. Furthermore, it is pioneering the sustainable production of charcoal from sawmills and harvest residues derived from its forestry operations. It has also spearheaded an inclusive business model for honey production, integrating it into the beekeeping value chain of both Levasflor Lda and the Gorongosa National Park.

Jeremias Eduardo

Project Officer

Jeremias is the heart of our farmer-to-farmer approach. An Agronomic Engineer and a local farmer himself, he bridges the gap between scientific research and traditional knowledge. His deep motivation is personal: as a Mozambican committed to seeing his country thrive environmentally, he leads by example.

Fluent in English, Portuguese, Xi-Sena, and Ndau, Jeremias is uniquely positioned to build trust with local communities. He does not just "teach" agroforestry; he translates complex concepts—like soil management and tree spacing—into cultural realities that farmers understand and adopt. He is the key to ensuring our projects are locally owned and sustainable.
